Album Review: Ingrid Michaelson - 'Lights Out' + my fav tracks

April 29, 2014

Halfway this month indie-pop singer/ songwriter Ingrid Michaelson released her sixth album debut, called 'Lights Out'. An album full of 14 new tracks, who she wrote or co-wrote. That's what makes this EP more outstanding than her previous work, because this time Ingrid collaborated with a variety of songwriters and producers. The result? More pop than usual, but they still all sounds very 'Ingrid', only 'Lights Out' is more mature than her previous albums like'Human Again' and 'Everybody'.

'Lights Out' is a fabulous album. It's the best what 2014 has brought so far music-wise. Ingrid shows that she still nails it. My favorite tracks? Scroll down below to hear which song has been stuck on repeat for days.

'Home'
'Home' is the first track of 'Lights Out' and this song is definitely one my favorites, maybe even my all-time favorite track of the whole album. This song has everything that you can expect from Ingrid: Simple, but oh so beautiful and lovely. I fell deeply in love with this song. The lyrics are heartwarming:

"Where I go when I don't know where else to goI know everything about this placeIt wears your faceEven when my body blows away my soul will stay"

Warpath'
Warpath may be the shortest track of the whole album, but that doesn't mean it's not worth listening to! Because it is such an awesome song! It has everything: Rock'n roll, pop and soul. I love that this song is much more darker than the other ones. You can really feel Ingrid's emotions while listening. The clapping is also very tempting for the ears. Huge possibility that you will find yourself dancing on it. The chorus are also irresistible and catchy: 'Baby, you drive me so crazy, Baby, you drive me so crazy, Baby, you drive me so crazy'

'Time Machine'
This song is such a badass!! The saxophone is killing it and the beat is addictive. It's hard to keep your feet on the ground, because this makes you wanna go dancing all day. Incredible are the vocal harmonies halfway through the song, which enhanced even more the theme of this track.

'Afterlife'
This is one of those Ingrid's songs that would be the perfect candidate as a soundtrack for Grey's Anatomy. The lyrics are beautiful, the vocals are flawless and I love the message behind the song. Uplifting and touching, but not too sloppy or catchy.

 'Over You'
Another huge favorite from the album is the beautiful ballad 'Over You'. Ingrid co-wrote this song with A Great Big World, a NYC based musical group. What a wonderful collaboration. This is what heartbreaks sounds like.

Curious to the other 10 songs from 'Lights Out'? The album is now available on Itunes.
PS: Ingrid is going to rock across the US with her tour, from Austin to LA. You can find a complete list of the tour dates here.
